HSI Grants Overview

About HSI Grants

Awarded by the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) with the U.S. Department of Education, Title V grants are one of three grant programs managed by the Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Division.

The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program (Title V, Part A) provides grants to HSIs to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Latinx/Chicanx students. These grants also enable HSIs to expand and enhance their academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability. The purpose is to:

  • Expand educational opportunities for, and improve the academic attainment of Latinx/Chicanx students; and
  • Expand and enhance the academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability of colleges and universities that educate the majority of Latinx/Chicanx (Hispanic) students

Title V DHSI grants are five-year grants that are awarded on a competitive basis.

Title V – Conocimiento los Caminos

Award Amount: $600,000/yr

About Conocimiento los Caminos (CLC)

The Conocimiento los Caminos grant aims at supporting Latinx, Chicanx, and other underrepresented students. This grant intentionally aims to transform spaces at ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ to raise Latinx student achievement, build capacity of faculty and staff to serve Latinx students, and build community across stakeholders.

Project Goals

Conocimiento Los Caminos aims to:

  • Increase the Latinx/Chicanx freshman retention rate
  • Increase the annual rate of degree or certificate completion
  • Increase ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Latinx student transfer rate
  • Increase the preparation of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ’s Latinx student employment rate
  • Increase the number of faculty participating in professional development
Title V – Adelante

AdelanteDates: October 1, 2023 – September 30, 2028

Award Amount: $600,000/yr

 

About Adelante

The Adelante grant aims to outreach to, prepare, and guide more Hispanic and low-income students to improve representation in higher education, advance their educational attainment, and increase career placement in high-demand industries in the region.

Project Goals

Adelante aims to:

  • Increase access and enrollment
  • Increase academic success and retention
  • Increase graduation and transfer rates
  • Increase career placement rates
  • Implement a professional development program to increase culturally responsive curriculum, pedagogy and practices
