³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Library Mission
The primary mission of the ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Library is to promote student success and equity by providing access to space and resources needed to complete studies and supporting the curriculum and information needs of the diverse ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ community. This mission is met by providing physical and remote access to quality diverse print, electronic, and multimedia resources, services, and instruction. Consistent with the mission and institutional outcomes of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ, the library faculty and staff strive to promote information competency, critical thinking, lifelong learning, and academic success. They do so by making available to ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ students, faculty, and staff the resources needed to conduct research related to their curriculum and endeavors and by promoting the information competency skills needed to successfully retrieve information through instructional support.
Library student workers help advance the library’s mission and gain new skills and valuable work experience.
Student Employment Criteria
Minimum employment criteria for all Peralta Colleges’ Student Workers:
(according to Peralta Community College District Administrative Procedure 7270 Student Worker ()
- Be admitted and enrolled as a student in the Peralta Colleges
- Be authorized to work in the United States *(see international students below)
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Not currently employed within the Peralta CC District
Essential Duties
- Understand and effectively communicate library policies and procedures
- Provide support for the Circulation Desk
- Aid with special assignments and projects
- Provide support for Library tasks and daily functions including:
- Shelving library materials
- Processing books
- Shelf maintenance (dusting, shelf reading, shifting etc.)
- Working at the circulation desk (checking items in and out, renewing items, retrieving reserve books)
- Assisting with copy machines and printers
- Assisting with clerical tasks as needed
Desired Qualifications
- Currently enrolled ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ student
- Computer competency
- Customer service skills
- Must be enthusiastic, reliable, and eager to assist library staff and patrons
Job Details
- Library student workers are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week, though most work an average of 10 hours per week.
- Most shifts are between 3 and 4 hours
- Pay is $18.06 per hour
- Student workers are hired for the Fall and Spring semesters, with interviews being held in July-August and December-January respectively.
International Students
F-1 international students are eligible to work on campus. To do so:
- Complete the process
- Receive an Employment offer letter from the Hiring Manager
- Once you have the offer letter contact the , who will then assist in the Social Security Number application process.
- Once all documents are submitted it takes 1-3 weeks for the Social Security Office to provide a Social Security Number to students.
- Students are eligible to work on campus once a Social Security Number has been issued.
